Have you ever had an experience where you read or saw something and then you saw it somewhere else? Every time I’ve had this experience, I know that I need to put my listening ears on because God is trying to tell me something!
As you probably already know, I am a mom of 3 adorable boys and recently they asked me to watch the show, The Voice, with them. If you are a mom of boys, you are probably just as shocked as I was that they would sit still long enough to watch an entire TV show. HA! After watching the show for the first time, we all got very wrapped up in the process. In a nutshell, a singer comes out onto the stage with a panel of judges facing away from them. If a judge likes what they hear and wants the singer on their team, they push their button and their chair turns around.
Can you imagine being the singer that no one turns around for?! How awkward and horrifying that moment must feel for them. I can definitely relate to how the singer feels. I’m a people-pleaser and suffer from the “disease to please,” so to think about doing something I’m passionate about and no one “turning around” makes the feelings of insecurity come to the surface. Or maybe you can relate because you’ve always wanted your parents’ approval? Or perhaps you are even seeking the approval of your spouse?
There are so many negative thoughts that can run through our heads when we experience any kind of disappointment. Recently I’ve been reading Steven Furtick’s book, Crash the Chatterbox. Not long after I watched the first episode of The Voice, Furtick mentions the show in his book! HELLO LIZ – GOD CALLING!! The book talks about how we experience the same insecurities in our lives daily. We see everyone’s highlight reel on social media and immediately start comparing our lives to them and having internal negative thoughts.
The truth I want to share with you today (and to Crash the Chatterbox of your mind) is GOD HAS ALREADY HIT THE BUTTON!! We don’t need anyone else’s approval, because all that matters is His! How amazing is that?! It sounds so simple and yet we often times refuse to remember this one simple truth. We don’t have to be perfect and have it all figured out.
This week I want to encourage you to remember that the only one that matters has already hit the button and put His stamp of approval on you. Get rid of those negative and insecure thoughts and give it all to HIM!
Jeremiah 1:5 (NIV)
“Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations.”
