As I was waiting for my boys to join me in the car the other morning (to go out for breakfast to celebrate their FIRST day of Summer YAY!!) I looked down at my hand and had to smile. True story–I love having my nails professionally polished, but in my pursuit to make this my #summertothrive, I’ve given up getting my nails polished. Who has time for that?! LOL! Instead, I decided to “splurge” on this OPI gel polish and did them myself, and I am pleasantly surprised by how long it’s lasting!
Does anyone else feel a struggle to balance it all during the Summer when your kids are at home? I constantly have a work-life balance struggle that I’m trying to improve upon. I LOVE my business, but I also don’t want to miss out on anything with my boys. The days where they like to still hang out with me are numbered, so I never want to look back and regret missing out on those moments for things like emails and Facebook messages.
That’s one reason I was SO excited to read Jess Connolly’s Summer to Thrive guide. She walks you through how to make goals and “chill out” so that the Summer can be enjoyable again. It was a great way for me to work out a schedule that would not only allow me to continue to grow my business but also not miss out on the fun memories with my husband and boys.
So for accountability I’m sharing what else I’m giving up! I’m also giving up planning every moment of our Summer schedule (which is super hard for me!), being on Social Media from 8-9 PM (hubby and I are putting our phones in a basket during this time), using real plates (that’s what paper was made for, right), and saying YES before pausing to pray about it first.
What am I keeping this Summer? I’m going to continue rising early to have my #Jesustime and workouts before my boys wake up so that I can be more present for them. I want to build a fortress around my focus by having set #powerhours when I work my business so that I can then unplug and play without any guilt!
How about you? What do you want to give up or make sure that you do so you can thrive this Summer? I want to encourage you to download the Summer to Thrive guide and have an honest gut check about what your priorities are. Work will always be there; our kids will not. Get an accountability partner or someone who can keep you in the fun line when you try to go back to your old habits.
Now it’s time to go to the pool with my boys 🙂
